Food and famine

It can be hard for Key Stage 3/third and fourth level students to understand how so many people in the world are still starving from the perspective of an economically developed, technologically advanced country. When teaching Nutrition and digestion, get your class to challenge their prejudices about edible foods. Get them to try eating insects and think about the wider implications of this and perform experiments to find out what clean, safe water really is.
